It’s a big week for Canadian ballers with Tuesday’s European summer transfer deadline day looming.

With several having already secured big moves across the continent, other names have been thrown around in recent weeks that could find themselves at a new club this week.

Plus, the men’s Canadian Championship is back in action, the NSL has a record-setting afternoon and plenty more ahead in this week’s edition of The Northern Pitch.

What was a transfer window full of rumours but little movement for Canadian ballers for most of the summer, has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks.

Promise David to Brighton, Nathan Saliba to Villarreal, Jayden Nelson to Bolton, and now Stephen Eustáquio has joined Swansea in the Championship.

The move comes following six seasons with Porto in Portugal, making 157 appearances and scoring 12 times in all competitions. He won the league twice and three Taça de Portugal titles.

But after seeing his minutes diminish greatly with the Portuguese giants in recent years, spending the latter part of last year on loan with LAFC in MLS, this seems like a great move to make Eustáquio a key player for a club competing at a very good level.

Now Eustáquio moves to Wales, where he looks to help Swansea back into the English Premier League. He had a strong debut on Saturday, coming off the bench to pick up an assist in a 3-0 win over Derby County.

With Tuesday’s deadline day looming, there are plenty of other Canadians who have seen their names in rumours, including Jonathan David, Niko Sigur and Luc de Fougerolles. Will any of them join Eustáquio and secure a big move?

On Tuesday night in Laval, the semifinals of the 2026 Voyageurs Cup kick off.

In their first year in the Canadian Championship, FC Supra du Québec have reached the semifinals, where they take on a team battle-tested in knockout competition: Forge FC.

Experience and history say Forge has a big edge, but Supra did get a huge boost when they defeated the Hamilton club 1-0 in the league this past weekend for their first-ever win against them.

The two sides meet again at Stade Boréale for the first leg of the semifinal on Tuesday. Forge, meanwhile, will look to reach their second Canadian Championship final.

A day later, on Wednesday night, the second semifinal kicks off with the Vancouver Whitecaps hosting CF Montréal at BC Place. Both clubs have won CanChamp titles.

They last met in this competition in the 2023 final, with the Whitecaps prevailing 2-1. This time, the two sides are playing to get back to a spot in the final, which they would host.

All the action will be available live on OneSoccer and TSN, with RDS picking up rights too in order to document an exciting semifinal round for Québec footy.

Montréal breaks NSL attendance record. The Roses hosted the Halifax Tides at CF Montréal’s home of Stade Saputo. The occasion did not disappoint, as over 17,000 supporters came to support the Roses and broke the attendance record.

A close call for the home club. This was a tight affair. Both teams rose to the occasion and had each other in a 0-0 deadlock for the majority of the game. However, the tide would shift against Halifax as Sheyenne Allen would be shown a red card in the 68th minute. MTL would go on the attacking tilt after the foul.

A local baller would break the deadlock. Montrealer Anne-Valérie Seto would break the deadlock. Off the corner kick, a cross from Mimi Alidou would find the head of Seto, who would score a banger in the 75th minute. The only goal of the game and Stade Saputo did not fail. A deafening decibel level erupted after that goal.

Could Stade Saputo be the new home of the Roses? The quality of the football, along with the attendance numbers, indicates the Roses’ popularity in the city. Despite being a one-off game, the Roses could bring in strong attendance numbers if they called Stade Saputo home.

With CF Montréal eventually moving to the Stade Olympique, Saputo would be left empty. If things align, the Roses could realistically move in if they can attract strong attendance regularly. This game was a good test.

Good-bye, Stade Boréale? A venue on the island of Montréal and that is easily accessible by métro makes Stade Saputo favourable over Laval’s Stade Boréale. As of now, the Roses aren’t moving, but we predict the move would happen in the near future.

🏆 Olivia Smith wins PFA Young Player of the Year. The silverware is collecting for Olivia Smith, and the season hasn’t even started. Smith was voted YPOTY for a second straight season by her peers, adding an extra layer to the award.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Promise David makes his Premier League debut. Perhaps the most watched minutes this week. Promise took his first steps as a Premier League footballer as a late sub for Brighton, nearly getting his head on an assist in a 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

🇪🇸 Nathan Saliba joins Villarreal. The Yellow Submarine is starting to get crowded with Canadians — not that it’s a bad thing. Quite the contrary, Saliba joined countrymen Tani Oluwaseyi and Tajon Buchanan this week in a €15 million move.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jayden Nelson joins Bolton Wanderers. Nelson traded Austin for England on Tuesday, after a $1.1 million offer from Bolton was accepted, reported Tom Bogert. Nelson showed some early flashes on his debut, a 1-0 loss to Lincoln City FC.

🇮🇹 Dylan Judelson loaned to Genoa. The Canadian U20 midfielder joined Serie A’s Genoa on loan this week, with a purchase option and potential sell-on fee for Orlando. It’s a great opportunity.

🇪🇸 Jonathan David to Atlético Madrid? The final days of the transfer window are soon to become the final hours. Transfer tap-in merchant Fabrizio Romano says the Iceman could join Atléti on loan if everything can be settled in time.

🇫🇷 Niko Sigur to Toulouse? The other Canadian transfer saga is also still brewing up surprises. After months of speculation that Sigur would be headed to link up with Alistair Johnston at Celtic, a late change now has Canadian striker Jacen Russell-Rowe’s Toulouse in top spot for Sigur’s signature.

🇮🇹 Cagliari approach for Luc De Fougerolles. There weren’t many details, other than who, what, and where. Who? LDF. What? A move. Where? Cagliari. Unknown are the why and the how — specifically, if this is a loan or a permanent move, since Fulham still highly rate LDF.

🔴 Toronto FC could reach the playoffs. Since MLS returned from the World Cup break, TFC have two wins, 1 loss and five draws. In this latest game, Toronto hosted NYCFC and ended in a 1-1 draw. With this draw, TFC are only a point away from a playoff spot.

Ⓜ️ How does one defend Messi? Trick question, there is no answer. The GOAT scored four against the away team, CF Montréal. For MTL, there were positives as the team played a decent first half with a goal from Fabian Herbers. For Miami, they have been winless in their last four league games. For MTL, a draw would have been the best-case scenario. Alas, CFM returned home with a 7-1 loss.

🌊 The Whitecaps will likely finish the season on top. The Caps travelled to Kansas City and handed the home team 3-0 win. At this rate, the VWFC are a runaway train. Once they build momentum, it is very tough to stop them. Brian White scored the second, bringing his season tally to 13 goals and two assists.

🤝 Dante Sealy returns to CF Montréal. The Trinidadian winger returns to MTL after spending half a season with Colorado. Sealy was traded to Colorado in 2025 for $1.9 million. Now, he returns to MTL for $1.7 million. This is a good move for the club as he built a strong relationship with Prince Owusu in 2025.

✍️ The Whitecaps signed Emrick Fotsing and are finalizing Yanaly Diaby. It’s official: VWFC have signed Vancouver FC’s 18-year-old talent Emrick Fotsing. The CF Montréal youth academy graduate and Canada U20 star has signed through 2029-2030 with an option for 2030-31. The Caps aren’t done, as reported by Tom Bogert, Vancouver are finalizing a deal to sign Ligue 2 forward Yanaly Diaby from Grenoble.

🦖 Nicolas Chateau is unreal. This past weekend, Ottawa hosted Inter Toronto FC in a tight game that could’ve gone either way. The Nine Stripes controlled the game with a 1-0 lead until a red card was shown to striker Sebastian Gonzales. Atlético Ottawa would equalize with another Ballou Tabla classic in the 73rd minute and then a game-winning goal in stoppage time from Nicolas Chateau, ending the game 2-1 for Ottleti. The 24-year-old striker has scored five goals and two assists in his last seven CPL games.

⚜️ Supra inch closer to a play-off spot. The MTL club hosted Forge FC in a game that heavily favoured the latter. This game was closer than expected. Forge dominated possession, but Supra were lethal on the attack. Despite being a tight game, Supra would score the only goal of the game with a penalty from Loïc Kwemi. With this goal, Kwemi now has 10 goals this season, making him the top goal scorer of the league.

🦅 Could Vancouver lose their playoff spot? VFC were defeated 1-0 at ATCO Field by league leaders Cavalry. Vancouver are two points ahead of Supra. However, the latter have one game in hand. Moreover, VFC have been winless in four games and will host Supra next. The Eagles have the home advantage but their winless streak is of concern. For Supra, the win against Forge is a needed confidence boost before heading to Vancouver.

🔱 Pacific have won. You read that right. After 385 days in the wilderness of the loss and draw columns, Pacific FC clawed their way, tooth and nail, into a W in a 4-3 win over the Halifax Wanderers.

🦉 Calgary continue their undefeated streak. The Wild have now gone four games undefeated, with the latest matchup against Vancouver ending 2-2. Calgary were close to walking out of Swangard Stadium with a full three points but were denied the win by a stoppage-time goal from Jessica De Filippo.

🌇 AFC Toronto close in on Ottawa. Toronto hosted the Ottawa Rapid, and the result will influence playoff spots. The Rapid, who have been in first place for most of the season, have now dropped to second after losing 2-1 to AFC. This game was just straight bangers; notably, Kaylee Hunter’s free kick is a gem of a screamer.
